Pilot Programmes
STEP BY STEP, BUILDING STRONGER HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS
It's not enough to point out the challenges facing European healthcare systems. It’s essential to find practical, pragmatic solutions. AbbVie challenges affiliates to notice and identify problems, innovate and test solutions and learn from their experiences.
The result: a series of pilot programmes that demonstrate the power of concrete solutions to improve the sustainability of healthcare systems. Each programme falls under at least one of the three pillars of sustainable healthcare: prevention and early intervention, patient empowerment and reorganisation of care delivery. The most successful pilots are scaled up and every project proves that even small changes have the potential to make a big impact. The power of pilot programmes is that they serve as examples; models that can be adapted to different countries, languages and health systems.

Greece – Instituting National Health Insurance
AbbVie Greece supported a study on the implementation of universal healthcare coverage through the reorganisation of healthcare financing.
Greece relies on employer-employee contributions for partially (40%) of its public health insurance. At a time of extreme unemployment, this leaves many without coverage. Instead of partly relying on labour contributions, the study recommends financing of National Health Insurance from tax proceeds on all sources of income. As these issues are quite particular to the economic context found in Greece, these recommended measures are likewise particular to Greece and not replicable elsewhere.
